Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a bowl, mix all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
In a separate bowl, cream together unsalted butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in vanilla extract.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture until combined.
Press the dough into a tart pan evenly across the bottom and up the sides.
Chill the crust in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
Bake the crust for 20-25 minutes until set and slightly firm.
Let the crust cool completely in the pan.
Melt dark chocolate in a double boiler or microwave until smooth.
Spread the melted chocolate over the cooled crust evenly.
Pit and slice the cherries, then layer them over the chocolate.
In a bowl, whip heavy cream until soft peaks form, then add powdered sugar and almond extract.
Spread the whipped cream over the cherries and chocolate layer.
Chill the crostata for at least 1 hour before serving.
