Homemade Cranberry Sauce

Frozen cranberries are often more affordable and available year-round.
Rinse and sort through the 12 ounces of fresh cranberries, picking out any mushy ones and stems, then drain them.
In a saucepan on medium heat, add the rinsed cranberries.
Add cranberry juice (or pomegranate juice or water) to the saucepan.
Add freshly squeezed orange juice and orange zest to the mixture.
Add a good bit of sugar and stir everything together.
Stir frequently as the cranberries come up to a simmer.
Cook the cranberries for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they start to pop.
The sauce will look a little runny but will thicken and gel up once it cools.
Pour the cranberry sauce into a glass dish (like Pyrex) to cool, avoiding plastic containers.
Let the cranberry sauce cool to room temperature, then refrigerate.
