Start by adding 4 cups of water to a pot and bring it to a boil.
Add 1 pound of ditalini pasta and 12 ounces of frozen peas to the boiling water.
Stir the pasta and peas to combine and reduce the heat to medium, about 5 out of 10.
In a separate heavy pot, add 1/2 cup of extra virgin olive oil and heat it on medium-low (about 4 out of 10).
Dice one large onion and add it to the olive oil, sautéing until soft and translucent, about 7 minutes.
Add 1 teaspoon of crushed red pepper flakes to the oil and let it infuse for about 20 seconds.
Stir in 6 ounces of tomato paste and fry it in the oil for about 5 minutes until the oil turns red and the paste is fragrant.
Once the tomato paste is ready, add the boiling water with pasta and peas to the pot with the tomato mixture.
Add 1 teaspoon of salt to the pot and stir everything together.
Cook the pasta and peas for about 7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the liquid reduces and becomes creamy.
Once the pasta is cooked, stir in 3/4 cup of pecorino Romano cheese until melted and creamy.
