Cut the dough into squares or rectangles using a sharp knife or pastry cutter.
Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
Fry the dough pieces in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
Remove beignets from oil and drain on paper towels.
Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
