4 cups all-purpose flour
1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F)
1 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp salt
2 tbsp olive oil
1 egg (for egg wash)

In a small bowl, dissolve the sugar in warm water and sprinkle the yeast on top. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and olive oil.

Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 6 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball.

Place the dough balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover and let them rise for another 30 minutes.

Brush the tops of the dough balls with beaten egg for a golden finish.

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.

Remove from the oven and let cool slightly. Hollow out the center of each bread bowl to create a cavity for filling.
