Bolognese sauce, originating from Bologna, Italy, is a rich meat-based sauce traditionally served with pasta. It reflects the Italian culinary emphasis on slow cooking and layering flavors. While its exact origins are debated, it has become a staple in Italian cuisine and is widely enjoyed around the world, often adapted to local tastes and ingredients.

Broth can add flavor without alcohol.
Preheat a frying pan over medium-high heat.
Add 1 pound of ground beef and 0.5 pound of ground pork to the pan and season generously with salt.
Cook the meat until browned, breaking it into smaller pieces with a spatula.
Transfer the browned meat into a braising pan.
In the same pan, add 2 tablespoons of salted butter and let it melt.
Add 1 large diced onion, 2 finely diced celery sticks, and 2 finely diced carrots to the pan; sauté for 4 to 5 minutes until the onion is translucent and tender.
Add 6 minced garlic cloves to the mixture and cook for 1 more minute.
Pour in 0.5 cup of red wine and let it reduce for a few minutes until almost completely evaporated.
Transfer the vegetable mixture into the braising pan with the ground meat.
Add 1 cup of beef broth, 1 cup of whole milk, 28 ounces of petite diced tomatoes, and 12 ounces of tomato paste to the braising pan.
Season with 1 teaspoon of dried rosemary, 1 teaspoon of dried thyme, 1 teaspoon of dried basil, 1 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of sugar, and ground black pepper to taste; mix well.
Bring the sauce to a boil over medium-high heat, then cover with a lid and reduce the heat to low.
Let the sauce simmer on low heat for 2 hours.
After simmering, transfer the sauce to a different pot for presentation.
Garnish with fresh basil and stir it in before serving.
