In a medium bowl combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and allspice. Stir in milk, butter, and vanilla extract.

Combine sauce ingredients into a medium stockpot. Bring to a boil and then immediately reduce heat to low.

Drop dough by large spoonfuls into sauce mixture. Cover and allow to cook for 20 minutes without lifting the lid. Add a small scoop of vanilla ice cream to each serving of dumplings if desired.
