Remove the crust from the white bread and dice it into small or medium-sized cubes.
In a bowl, combine diced onions and peppers (fresh or frozen).
In another bowl, empty the canned crab meat and add the onions and peppers.
Add lemon juice (fresh or store-bought) to the crab mixture.
Sprinkle in Old Bay seasoning.
Add the diced bread to the mixture.
Crack open 2 large eggs at room temperature and add them to the bowl.
Combine all ingredients using clean hands until well mixed.
Add mayonnaise and yellow mustard to the mixture.
If desired, add hot sauce for extra spice.
Form the mixture into patties using your hands, adjusting the size as preferred.
Preheat the grill to about 350°F and brush a cast-iron grill with oil.
Once the grill is hot, add the crab cakes on top.
If using a stovetop, heat a pan with oil to medium or medium-high.
Fry the patties for about 3-5 minutes on each side until golden brown, flipping carefully to avoid breaking them.
Repeat frying for another 3-5 minutes on the other side until golden.
Serve the crab cakes warm.
