Prepare a 2-pound loaf tin by greasing or lining it.
In a bowl, combine castor sugar and all bran, and stir.
Add skimmed milk to the mixture and stir well.
Let the mixture soak for a minimum of 30 minutes to an hour.
After soaking, add self-raising flour to the mixture and stir until combined.
Transfer the batter to the prepared loaf tin.
Bake in the oven for 1 to 1.5 hours at 190°C (gas mark 4).
Remove from the oven and let cool in the tin for about 10 minutes before transferring to cool completely.
