Cranberries are tart and add a unique flavor.
Cream together 3 sticks of softened butter with 1 cup of granulated sugar and 1/2 cup of light brown sugar for about 3 minutes.
Beat in 1 large egg and 1 egg yolk, along with 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
In a separate bowl, mix together 2 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture until just combined.
Divide the dough into thirds by weight.
For the cherry dough, mix in 1/4 cup of finely chopped maraschino cherries and 3 tablespoons of flour.
For the pecan dough, mix in 1/2 cup of chopped pecans, 1/4 teaspoon of almond extract, and green food coloring until desired color is achieved.
For the chocolate dough, mix in 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder, 1/3 cup of chopped chocolate, and 2 teaspoons of maraschino cherry juice.
Refrigerate the dough for an hour before baking.
