Combine 3 cups of all-purpose flour, 4.5 teaspoons of baking powder, 1 teaspoon of yeast, 1 teaspoon of sugar, and 1 teaspoon of salt in a mixing bowl.
Add 1 cup of warm water and mix until it forms a smooth dough, kneading for less than a minute to bring it together without developing gluten.
Cover the dough and let it rest for 20 minutes to relax the gluten.
Portion the rested dough into small balls, rolling them smooth by pinching and turning them in the palm of your hand.
Cover the balls with a damp paper towel and let them rest for another 5 to 10 minutes.
Sprinkle flour on a surface and roll each ball out to about 4 inches thick.
Heat oil in a deep frying pan until hot but not smoking.
Fry the rolled dough in the hot oil for about 1 minute on each side until golden brown, ensuring they puff up nicely.
Remove the fried bakes from the oil and drain on paper towels.
