Gather 12 apples that have fallen from trees.
Cut out any mushy parts of the apples with a knife.
Core the apples and throw them into a bowl, seeds and all.
Place the cored apples on a camp stove.
Add a little water if desired, but it's not necessary.
Cook the apples until they start to release liquid, stirring occasionally.
Add cinnamon and salt to the apples while cooking to enhance flavor.
Continue cooking until the apples are soft and mushy, about 10 minutes.
Use a wooden spatula to smash down the cooked apples.
Turn down the heat to prevent burning the bottom of the pot.
Use a food mill to separate the skins, seeds, and stems from the applesauce.
Scoop the cooked apples into the food mill and turn the handle to process them.
Collect the skins and discard them after processing.
Taste the applesauce and adjust sweetness with sugar if desired.
Store the applesauce in a container for freezing or canning.
