Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 2 cups of granulated sugar, and 1 teaspoon of baking powder, and stir together.
Add 2 eggs to the dry ingredients and mix well.
Melt 2 sticks of real butter in a saucepan.
Once the butter is melted, add 1/4 cup of cocoa powder, water, and buttermilk to the saucepan and mix until combined.
Add vanilla extract to the melted mixture.
Carefully pour the hot mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring to avoid cooking the eggs.
Mix until the batter is well combined and smooth, ensuring there are no lumps.
Spray a cake pan with cooking spray (like Pam) to prepare it for the batter.
Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 20 to 25 minutes, checking for doneness at 20 minutes.
