Wash the white rice thoroughly until the water runs clear, using a bowl to help gauge clarity.
To a pot of boiling water, add the washed rice and stir.
Cook the rice until the grains are fully cooked, about 12 to 15 minutes.
If desired, add salt to the rice while it cooks.
Once cooked, strain the rice thoroughly to wash away excess starch.
Place the strained rice back on the stove and add butter, tossing to coat the rice evenly.
Cover the pot and lower the heat to the lowest setting.
Allow the rice to steam for about 10 minutes before serving.
