1 teaspoon granulated white sugar
1 tablespoon and 2 teaspoons grated white sugar
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup unsalted butter (melted)
1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
1/2 cup all-purpose flour (additional)
1 teaspoon kosher salt (for topping)
1 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon oregano
1/4 cup melted butter (for brushing)
1/6 cup melted butter (for brushing)

Whisk together 1/2 cup warm water, 2 1/4 teaspoons yeast, and 1 teaspoon sugar in a bowl of a stand mixer.

Set aside for 5 to 8 minutes to proof until foamy.

Add another 1/2 cup warm water, 1 tablespoon and 2 teaspoons sugar, and 1 1/2 cups flour to the bowl.

Use a paddle attachment to mix until a smooth wet batter forms.

Add 1/4 cup melted unsalted butter and 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt, then 1 cup flour, and continue to mix until a sticky dough forms.

Switch to a hook attachment and gradually add another 1/2 cup flour until the dough is smooth and elastic.

Roll the dough into a ball and place it in a buttered bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise for 1 hour and 30 minutes.

In a small bowl, whisk together 1 teaspoon kosher salt, 1 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder, and 1/2 teaspoon oregano for the topping.

Punch down the risen dough and transfer to a lightly floured surface.

Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces and let rest for 10 minutes.

Roll each piece into 9 to 10 inch long ropes and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

Brush with 1/4 cup melted butter and cover with plastic wrap to rise for 30 minutes.

Preheat oven to 400°F.

After resting, brush the breadsticks with 1/6 cup melted butter and sprinkle with a third of the dry rub.

Bake for 5 minutes, then brush again with 1/6 cup melted butter and sprinkle with another third of the dry rub.

Bake for an additional 8 to 10 minutes until golden brown.

Remove from oven and brush with remaining 1/6 cup melted butter and remaining dry rub, and optionally sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese.
