Today, it enjoys global popularity, with many using it as a go-to sauce for adding heat and depth to various cuisines.

De-seed 12 chilies and place them in a hot pot to warm up.
Switch off the burner and prepare to heat the oil.
Add about 2.5 tablespoons of garlic to the pot and sauté until slightly brown on the edges, being careful not to burn it.
Add a little cold oil to stop the garlic from burning.
Add 2 star anise and 3 cardamom pods to the garlic and oil mixture.
Add 1 cup of olive oil to the pot and mix with the garlic.
Add ginger to cool down the oil and prevent bitterness, then switch off the burner.
Add 1.5 tablespoons of fried shallots to the mixture.
Add 3/4 teaspoon of salt and half a teaspoon of better than bouillon for umami flavor.
Add 1 tablespoon of gochugaru to the mixture for flavor and color.
Mix well to dissolve the better than bouillon and combine all ingredients.
Transfer the mixture to a glass jar and refrigerate for a couple of days before use.
