Warm up the milk and add sugar and egg, mixing well.
Check the temperature of the mixture to ensure it's around 36 degrees Celsius (97 Fahrenheit).
Add instant dried yeast to the milk mixture and stir.
Set the yeast mixture aside for 5-10 minutes to activate.
After 10 minutes, add the active yeast mixture to a mixing bowl.
Add soft butter to the liquid and whisk together.
Add all-purpose flour and salt to the bowl and mix with a wooden spoon.
Once roughly mixed, use a bowl scraper to finish incorporating the ingredients.
Cover the dough with a shower cap and let it proof in a warm spot for 30 minutes.
After 30 minutes, turn out the dough onto a floured surface and knock back the dough to release gas.
Return the dough to the bowl, cover, and let it proof for another 45 minutes.
Dust the bench with flour and turn out the dough again after the second proof.
Divide the dough into 10 equal pieces, shaping each into a ball.
Cover the dough balls with a lightweight dry cloth and let them rest for 10 minutes.
Form each dough ball into a ring by pushing a finger through the middle and spinning it around.
Place the formed rings on a parchment-lined baking tray and brush each with vegetable oil.
Cover the doughnuts with a cloth and allow them to proof for 45 minutes.
Heat vegetable oil in a pan to around 160-170 degrees Celsius (320-340 Fahrenheit).
Carefully lower the doughnuts into the hot oil in batches of three or four, frying for about 90 seconds per side.
Once golden brown, lift the doughnuts out and place them on a plate lined with kitchen roll to soak up excess oil.
