Soak the apples in water and lime juice in a bowl.
In a mixing bowl, whisk together 1 and 1/2 cups of cake flour, 1 and 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt, then set aside.
In a stand mixer, cream together 1/2 cup of room temperature butter and 1 and 1/2 cups of granulated sugar for about 6 minutes, scraping the bowl as needed.
Add the eggs one at a time, beating for about 30 seconds after each addition.
Add 1 and 1/2 teaspoons of Madagascar bourbon vanilla extract to the mixture.
Add half of the flour mixture to the batter and mix until dissolved.
Scrape the bowl, then add half of 1/2 cup of whole milk and mix until dissolved.

In a separate bowl, mix 1 cup of dark brown sugar with 2 tablespoons of cinnamon and set aside.
Butter and flour an 8-inch by 4-inch deep cake pan.

Layer the soaked apples on top of the brown sugar mixture.
Pour the cake batter over the apples in the pan.
Bake in a preheated oven at 300°F for 25 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Let the cake sit in the pan for about 6 minutes before flipping it out.
Prepare a vanilla glaze by adding a couple of tablespoons of extra milk to a vanilla glaze recipe.
Drizzle the glaze over the cake once it has cooled for about 15 minutes.
