Whole wheat flour adds fiber, while cornmeal is often cheaper.
Add all-purpose flour to a bowl.
Add half a tablespoon of baking powder per cup of flour.
Add a pinch of salt and mix well into the flour.
Gradually add warm water to the flour mixture to form a soft dough.
Knead the dough for about five minutes until smooth and no longer sticky.
Cover the dough with a damp paper towel and let it rest for 15 to 20 minutes.
Portion the dough into small balls and smooth the tops.
Let the dough balls rest for another 15 to 20 minutes under a damp paper towel.
Roll out each dough ball to about 1/4 inch thick, ensuring even thickness.
Heat a tawa over medium heat.
Cook each roti on the tawa, flipping when it starts to bubble, and rotate to ensure even cooking.
Cook until golden brown on both sides.
