Add 1 cup of water to a pot with the apples.
Bring the water to a boil, then reduce heat to low and cover the pot.
Let the apples simmer for about 20 to 30 minutes until they are soft.
Use a masher to break up some of the larger pieces of apple (optional).
Blend the softened apples using an immersion blender until smooth.
If using a regular blender, follow the manufacturer's instructions for blending hot food to avoid splatters.
Scoop the applesauce into freezer-safe containers for storage.
Let the applesauce cool completely before sealing the containers.
Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks or freeze for up to 1 year.
