Add cane sugar to the pan and mix until combined.
Bring the mixture to a medium boil, avoiding a rapid boil.
Mix cornstarch with a little water to create a slurry, then add it to the pan.
Add toasted sesame oil to the pan and stir.
Add crushed red pepper to the mixture, adjusting the amount for desired heat.
Whisk the sauce and let it boil, stirring occasionally to prevent scorching.
Check the sauce's thickness by coating a spoon; it's ready when it coats the spoon.
If not using immediately, let the sauce cool before storing in a mason jar.
