Heath Bars originated in the United States in the 1920s and quickly became a beloved candy bar known for its crunchy toffee and rich chocolate. These homemade versions celebrate the same delightful combination of flavors and textures, often enjoyed as a nostalgic treat. Today, variations abound, with some recipes incorporating different nuts or chocolate types, making them a versatile favorite at parties and gatherings.
Prepare an 8x8 pan by greasing it with oil or butter, avoiding parchment paper.
Melt 2 sticks (1 cup) of butter in a pot.
Add 1 cup of sugar, 1/4 teaspoon of salt, and 1/2 tablespoon of light corn syrup to the melted butter.
Stir the mixture until combined, then bring it to a boil without stirring.
Once boiling, monitor the temperature until it reaches 295°F using a thermometer.
Immediately pour the mixture into the prepared pan after reaching 295°F to prevent it from setting too quickly.
Allow the toffee to cool on the counter for 1-2 hours until completely hardened.
In a microwave-safe bowl, add 3/4 cup of chocolate chips and microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between until melted.
Spread the melted chocolate over the hardened toffee layer in the pan.
Let the chocolate set on the counter or refrigerate until firm.
Break or cut the toffee into pieces for serving.
