Start with 2 cups of tomato puree in a pot on low heat.
Add 2/3 cup of light corn syrup and 1/2 cup of white vinegar to the pot.
Add 2 teaspoons of lemon juice to the mixture.
Add 1/4 teaspoon of garlic powder, 2 teaspoons of salt, 4 teaspoons of sugar, and 4 teaspoons of dried minced onion to the pot.
Whisk or stir the ingredients together until well combined.
Increase the heat to bring the mixture to a simmer, aiming for a temperature between 190°F and 200°F.
Once simmering, reduce the heat to a very low simmer and cook uncovered for 25 to 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
After cooking, the sauce will thicken; turn off the heat and let it stand to thicken further.
Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning as desired, adding more minced onion or garlic powder if needed.
If the sauce is too tangy, add a couple of tablespoons of homemade ketchup to balance the flavor.
Store the chili sauce in jars and refrigerate after cooling.
