1/2 cup flour
1 tablespoon of cornstarch
1/4 teaspoon instant yeast
Pinch of salt
1/4 teaspoon of sugar
1 tablespoon oil
1 tablespoon plain yogurt
1/2 cup warm water plus more
Drop of edible yellow color (optional)
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
1 tsp lemon juice
2 tsp rose water
pistachio (optional)

Mix all dry ingredients then add yogurt and oil and mix again well then add warm water slowly and mix until you get a thick batter but a dropping consistency. You may not use all the water.

Keep it in a warm place for an hour or so till it ferments.

Add the batter in ketchup or mustard bottle and cut the tip so the opening is small.

Heat oil in a big pan or pot on medium flame. The oil shouldn't be so hot neither cold.

Now hold the ketchup dispenser over the hot oil and squeeze the batter into the oil like coiled circle. Make two or three circles at the time.

Fry till light golden and then remove and put directly into the syrup.

Allow to soak for 30 sec to 1 minute and then remove.

Serve warm or cold as is or garnish with pistachio or with dollop of ricotta cheese or cream (Qishta).
