Black Beans

5 cups water
1-2 tablespoons olive oil
2 cloves garlic
2 bay leaves

Rinse and pick out cracked or split black beans.

Add 1 pound of rinsed black beans to the Instant Pot.

Pour in about 5 cups of water, ensuring the water level is about an inch above the beans.

Add 1-2 tablespoons of olive oil to prevent foaming.

Smash 2 cloves of garlic and add them to the pot.

Add 2 bay leaves for flavor (optional).

Add a few big pinches of salt to the beans, adjusting later to taste.

Stir the ingredients in the pot.

Seal the lid on the Instant Pot.

Press the bean button and set it to cook for 22 minutes on high pressure.

After 22 minutes, let the pressure naturally release for 5 to 10 minutes.

Release any remaining pressure after the natural release is complete.

Check the beans for doneness; they should be perfect.

If you prefer softer beans, add 3-4 minutes to the cooking time or let them naturally release for an additional 4-5 minutes.

Scoop the beans out and note the liquid in the bottom of the pot can be saved for flavor in other recipes.
