Advanced Techniques - How To Make An Ice Ball Cocktail

Get a seasoning injector or syringe, a hammer, a tiny funnel, a standard ice ball mold, and optionally a soldering iron.

Fill the ice ball mold with tap or filtered water and place it in the freezer.

Freeze the mold for about 3 hours, flipping it upside down halfway through to ensure even freezing.

Once frozen, run cold water over the ice ball mold to loosen it.

Use the soldering iron to puncture a hole in the top of the ice ball mold, making sure the hole is big enough for the funnel.

Extract the water from inside the ice ball mold using the syringe, ensuring the shell is about 1/4 cm thick.

Store the ice ball in a tupperware container in the freezer, with the hole facing upwards.

Prepare a cocktail, in this case, a Manhattan using 2 oz of writtenhouse Rye, 1 oz of sweet vermouth, and 2 dashes of angostura Bitters.

Insert the funnel into the ice ball and carefully pour the cocktail in, leaving a little room at the top for garnish.

Express the oils from a lemon peel, curl it, and place it in the hole at the top of the ice ball.

Use the hammer to smash the ice ball open.
