Start by measuring 1 cup of all-purpose flour into a mixing bowl.
Add 1 cup of chopped butter to the flour.
Incorporate 1 tablespoon of turmeric and 1 tablespoon of curry powder into the mixture.
Add 1 tablespoon of baking powder and 1 teaspoon of salt.
Use a fork to break down the butter into the flour until crumbly, or use your hands if preferred.
Gradually add about 2 cups of buttermilk to the mixture, little by little, mixing until a dough forms.
Adjust the consistency by adding more flour if the dough is too soft.
Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
While the dough is chilling, prepare the filling by blending 1 small carrot, 1 clove of garlic, 1 small scotch bonnet pepper, a small piece of ginger, and 1 chopped onion in a blender with a little water.
Heat a pot on high and add olive oil.
Pour the blended mixture into the pot and sauté until fragrant.
Season the mixture with black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika, stirring well to combine.
Cook the filling until the vegetables are tender and the flavors meld together, about 5-7 minutes.
Remove the filling from heat and let it cool slightly before assembling the patties.
Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface and cut into circles.
Place a spoonful of filling on one half of each circle, fold over, and seal the edges with a fork.
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
Arrange the patties on a baking sheet and brush with buttermilk if desired.
Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
