Taramasalata

Cultural Context

Taramasalata is a traditional Greek dip made from salted fish roe, often enjoyed as part of a meze platter. It is especially popular during Lent and other fasting periods, where it serves as a flavorful alternative to meat dishes. The creamy texture and bright flavor make it a beloved appetizer in Greek cuisine, often served with pita or fresh bread. Variations exist across the Mediterranean, with each region adding its unique twist, but the core ingredients remain consistent, celebrating the simplicity and freshness of Greek culinary traditions.
