Homemade Croutons

1 pound French bread
1/3 cup olive oil
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/4 teaspoon black ground pepper

Cut the 1 pound loaf of French bread into cubes, about half an inch in size.

Place the cubed bread into a large bowl.

Add 1/3 cup of olive oil to the bowl, using only half if desired.

Add 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 1/2 teaspoon of dried oregano, and 1/4 teaspoon of black ground pepper to the bowl.

Stir the bread and seasonings together until well coated.

Line a sheet pan with a silicone mat or parchment paper and spread the bread mixture in one layer on the pan.

Bake in the oven for 10 to 15 minutes, then stir the croutons.

Return the croutons to the oven for another 10 to 15 minutes and stir again.

Repeat the stirring and baking process until the croutons are nice and crunchy, totaling about 35 minutes of baking time.

Remove the croutons from the oven and let them cool to room temperature before serving.
