Croissants

Cultural Context

Croissants are a quintessential French pastry, known for their flaky texture and buttery flavor. They are often enjoyed at breakfast or as a snack, and are a staple in French bakeries. The origins of the croissant are debated, with some tracing it back to Austria, while others credit France for its popularization. Regardless, they have become synonymous with French cuisine and culture, often paired with coffee or hot chocolate in cafes.

1

Take 4 croissants and slice them in half using an electric knife.

2

In a bowl, add 40 grams of melted butter and 1/2 cup of icing sugar and mix well.

3

Add 1 egg and 1 cup of almond flour to the mixture and mix again.

4

Add 1 teaspoon of almond extract and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract to the mixture and mix well.

5

Add a splash of amaretto (about 1 tablespoon) to the mixture and mix until combined.

6

Take the sliced croissants and distribute the almond mixture evenly inside each croissant, using about 1 tablespoon for each.

7

If the croissants are a bit dry, sprinkle a little amaretto on them or prepare a syrup by mixing 1/4 cup of water with 1/4 cup of sugar and heating it until dissolved.

8

Top the filled croissants with sliced almonds and place them in a baking dish.

9

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and bake for 20-25 minutes.

10

After 10 minutes, cover the croissants to prevent the almonds from burning.

11

Check the croissants after 18 minutes; if the almonds are toasted, they are done.

12

Remove from the oven and dust with icing sugar before serving.
