In a mixing bowl, combine 2 sticks of softened unsalted butter and 2 cups of sugar. Whisk together until fluffy.
Add 4 eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
Incorporate 1/2 cup of sour cream into the mixture and mix until combined.
In a separate bowl, combine 3 cups of cake flour, 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, and a pinch of salt. Stir to combine.
Alternate adding the dry ingredients and 1 cup of buttermilk to the wet mixture, starting and ending with the flour. Mix until just combined.
Prepare an angel food cake pan by greasing it with baking spray and coating the sides with 3-5 tablespoons of sugar.
Sprinkle sweetened shredded coconut flakes at the bottom of the pan.
Pour the batter into the prepared pan, ensuring it is evenly distributed.
Bake in the preheated oven for 45 to 50 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
