The dish is known for its dramatic presentation, often prepared tableside, making it a favorite for special occasions and gatherings.

Cut the New York strip steak in half.
Season the steak with salt and black pepper.
Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add the steak.
Sear the steak until it's about 75 percent cooked, approximately 3-4 minutes per side.
Remove the steak from the skillet and set aside.
In the same skillet, add 3 tablespoons of butter and 1 chopped onion.
Sauté the onion in the butter until softened, scraping the bottom of the pan to deglaze.
Pour in cognac and carefully light it on fire to flambé, allowing the alcohol to burn off.
Once the flames subside, add 1 can of beef broth and bring to a boil.
Stir in 1/4 cup of heavy cream and 2 teaspoons of Worcestershire sauce, mixing well.
Reduce the sauce by half over about 5 minutes.
Add the steak back into the skillet along with any drippings, coating it with the sauce.
Simmer the steak in the sauce for about 7-10 minutes until fully cooked.
