Hamburger Steak with Onions and Gravy

This dish is a delicious way to enjoy ground beef, typically served with a rich onion gravy, making it a hearty meal. Today, variations abound, with some incorporating mushrooms or different seasonings, but the classic version remains a beloved staple in many households.

Ground turkey is lower in fat, while ground pork is often less expensive.
In a large bowl, add 1 pound of ground beef, 1 egg, 1/8 teaspoon of ground black pepper, 1/2 teaspoon of seasoned salt, 1/2 teaspoon of onion powder, 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder, 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce, and 1/4 cup of breadcrumbs or crushed croutons.
Mix everything together being careful not to overmix.
Form the mixture into eight balls and flatten them into patties.
Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
Add the patties and 1 cup of thinly sliced yellow onion to the skillet.
Fry the patties on one side until they're brown, about 4 minutes.
Flip the patties and fry on the other side for another 4 minutes.
Remove the patties to a sheet tray or plate and cover them with foil to keep warm.
Leave the onions in the skillet and sprinkle 2 tablespoons of flour over the onions and drippings.
Stir over medium heat and gradually stir in 1 cup of beef broth, scraping any bits of beef off the bottom of the skillet.
Add 1 tablespoon of cooking cherry and 1/2 teaspoon of seasoned salt.
Simmer and stir over medium-low heat until the gravy thickens, about 5 minutes.
Reduce the heat to low and return the patties to the skillet, covering and simmering for another 15 minutes.
