Hot honey has roots in Southern cuisine, where it is often drizzled over fried chicken or biscuits. This sweet and spicy condiment embodies the balance of flavors that defines much of Southern cooking. Today, hot honey has gained popularity across various culinary scenes, appearing on pizzas, in cocktails, and as a topping for various dishes.
Heat 1 cup of honey in a saucepan.
Add 3 tablespoons of chili flakes (using gochugaru and dried pods).
Warm the honey for about 1-2 minutes to infuse the chili flavor without boiling.
Remove from heat and add 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, swirling it through.
Optionally strain the mixture or leave the chili flakes in.
Pour into a jar for storage.
For the second method, heat 1 cup of honey in a saucepan again.
Add sliced habanero and Fresno peppers.
Warm for about 1-2 minutes to infuse the honey with the chili flavor without boiling.
Remove from heat and add 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, swirling it through.
Strain out the fresh peppers and pour into a jar.
