Hot honey has roots in Southern cuisine, where it is often drizzled over fried chicken or biscuits. This sweet and spicy condiment embodies the balance of flavors that defines much of Southern cooking. Today, hot honey has gained popularity across various culinary scenes, appearing on pizzas, in cocktails, and as a topping for various dishes.
Combine honey, red pepper flakes, and cayenne pepper in a small saucepan.
Add a pinch of black pepper and salt to the mixture.
Heat the saucepan over low heat until the honey is warm, about 5 minutes.
Stir the mixture continuously to ensure the spices are well incorporated.
Add a splash of vinegar for acidity and stir to combine.
In a separate pan, heat olive oil over medium heat.
Add minced garlic to the hot oil and sauté until fragrant, about 1-2 minutes.
Combine the garlic oil with the honey mixture and stir well.
Remove from heat and let cool slightly before serving.
Store in a sealed jar in the refrigerator for up to a month.
