Homemade Garlic Knots

1 and 1/2 teaspoons sugar
3/4 cup warm water

Measure out 2 and 1/2 cups of bread flour into a mixing bowl.

In a separate bowl, combine 2 teaspoons of yeast, 1 and 1/2 teaspoons of sugar, and salt.

Add 3/4 cup of warm water to the yeast mixture and let it proof for about 10 minutes until foamy.

Remove 1 cup of flour from the mixing bowl and add the yeast mixture to the flour.

Stir in the yeast mixture with the flour and slowly incorporate the remaining flour until the dough pulls away from the bowl and is stretchy.

Grease a second bowl with olive oil and place the dough ball in it, covering it with plastic wrap to rise until doubled in size.

Once risen, punch down the dough and roll pieces into long ropes, then tie them into knots.

Place the knots on a greased baking pan.

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).

Bake the knots in the oven for 13 minutes until golden brown.

While the knots are baking, melt 4 tablespoons of butter in the microwave.

Add 1 and 1/2 tablespoons of minced garlic to the melted butter and microwave until fully melted.

Optionally, mix in some basil flakes and Parmesan cheese into the garlic butter.

Once the knots are done baking, brush them with the garlic butter mixture and sprinkle with more Parmesan cheese.
