Add 6 cups of water to a saucepan.
Add 1 tablespoon of chicken base to the water for flavor.
Add butter to the saucepan with water and chicken base.
Bring the mixture to a rolling boil.
Turn down the heat to avoid overflow.
Slowly pour in the cornmeal while stirring to avoid lumps.
Let the mixture sit for about 10 minutes, covered.
Switch to a wooden spoon and add sea salt, more butter, and fresh thyme.
Mix everything together until well combined.
