Add 500 grams of frozen mixed berries into a saucepan with 1/3 cup of caster sugar.
Slice one large lemon in half and extract the juice from both halves, adding it to the saucepan.
Place the saucepan on the stovetop over high heat and mix to coat the berries with sugar, bringing it to a boil.
Reduce heat to medium-high and simmer for 9 minutes, stirring regularly until thickened.
Pour the berry mixture into a bowl to cool down.
Slice 2 sheets of defrosted puff pastry into four even squares each.
Place roughly 1 tablespoon of the berry compote slightly off center on each square.
Fold one corner over to the opposite side to create a triangle and crimp the edges tightly.
Use a fork to crimp the edges for a decorative pattern.
Place the turnovers on a baking tray lined with parchment, ensuring they are not touching.
Crack 1 large free-range egg into a bowl and beat it to make an egg wash, brushing it over the turnovers.
In a small bowl, mix 1/2 cup of caster sugar with 1.5 tablespoons of ground cinnamon.
Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar over the egg-washed turnovers.
Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius (350 degrees Fahrenheit) and bake for 12 to 15 minutes until golden.
For the fried version, heat vegetable oil in a large pot to 180 degrees Celsius (350 degrees Fahrenheit).
Fry the turnovers one at a time for 1.5 minutes until lightly golden, then flip and fry for another 2.5 to 3 minutes until golden and crispy.
Remove the fried turnovers and coat them in cinnamon sugar.
