Galletas Marineras are traditional Salvadoran cookies, often enjoyed as a snack or with coffee. Originating from coastal regions, these cookies reflect the influence of maritime culture in El Salvador. They are typically made with simple ingredients, showcasing the resourcefulness of local bakers. 1

Welcome to Tenedor Libre, my name is Lucas and today we are making Galletas Marineras.

2

Start with 250 grams of all-purpose flour and add 1 teaspoon of salt around the edges.

3

In the center, add 1 teaspoon of baking powder and 1 teaspoon of sugar.

4

Add 3 tablespoons of oil and 100 cubic centimeters of water to the center.

5

Mix with your hands to form the dough, kneading for 7 to 10 minutes until smooth.

6

Let the dough rest for 10 to 15 minutes.

7

On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about half a centimeter thick.

8

Cut the dough into circles using a glass as a cutter, re-rolling any scraps to use all the dough.

9

Place the cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or lightly oiled.

10

Prick the cookies lightly with a fork to allow them to puff up slightly while baking.

11

Optionally, sprinkle a bit of cornmeal on top for extra crunch and flavor.

12

Preheat the oven to medium heat and bake the cookies for 5 to 8 minutes.

13

When they are lightly golden, turn off the oven and leave the cookies inside to dry out completely.
