It reflects the island's rich culinary heritage, combining simple ingredients to create a delightful texture and flavor. Traditionally served with curries or enjoyed on its own, Roast Paan has evolved with modern twists and is now popular in various forms across the globe.

Mix 3 tbsp of dry yeast with 2 tbsp of sugar.
Add 4 tbsp of lukewarm water and mix well; cover and let it activate.
In a separate bowl, mix 1 kg of all-purpose flour with 1 level tbsp of salt.
Add the frothy yeast mixture to the flour and combine.
Gradually add about 400 ml of water and mix until a firm, dense dough forms.
Mix in 1 tbsp of coconut oil and knead a bit more, then roll into a ball.
Cover with plastic wrap or a kitchen towel and let it rise for 1 hour.
Once doubled in size, gently press down the dough and shape it into a long roll.
Cut the dough into slices and shape each piece into balls, placing them on a baking tray with space in between.
Cover with plastic wrap and let rise for 10 to 20 minutes.
Flatten each dough ball into an oval shape, checking the size against your bread pan.
Brush all flat breads with coconut oil and stack them in the bread pan with parchment paper between each piece.
Cover the pan with plastic wrap and let it rest for 10 minutes.
Bake in a preheated oven at 200°C (395°F).
Remove from the oven and separate each piece.
Place the bread slices on a baking tray and return to the oven.
Roast for about 5 minutes on each side until crispy and golden brown.
