Easter Egg Nests

Cultural Context

Easter Egg Nests are a delightful American treat often made during the Easter season. They symbolize the arrival of spring and the joy of Easter egg hunts. Traditionally made with chocolate and coconut, these nests are a fun and creative way to celebrate the holiday, appealing to both children and adults alike. Variations exist, with some using different types of candy or cereals, making them a versatile dessert for various occasions.

🥗Healthier: dark chocolate chips

💰Cheaper: chocolate bars

Dark chocolate chips offer a richer flavor, while chocolate bars can be more economical.

🥗Healthier: coconut oil

💰Cheaper: margarine

Coconut oil adds a tropical flavor, while margarine is often less expensive.

🥗Healthier: puffed quinoa

💰Cheaper: generic rice cereal

Puffed quinoa is a healthier alternative, while generic options can save money.

mini chocolate eggs

🥗Healthier: dried fruit

💰Cheaper: regular chocolate eggs

Dried fruit offers a healthier sweetness, while regular chocolate eggs can be more affordable.

1

In a pot, mix the butter, sugar, evaporated milk, and cocoa.

2

Place on the stove and bring it to a boil while mixing everything together until it becomes a nice chocolate looking soup.

3

Once it has started to boil, remove the pot from the heat and add the coconut and quick oatmeal.

4

Mix everything together until the oatmeal and the coconut are covered in chocolate.

5

Leave it in the pot for about 10 to 15 minutes to let it cool just a bit.

6

Get some wax paper and a cookie sheet (or whatever you want to put them on).

7

Use two spoons to scoop out the mixture from the pot and place it on the wax paper in medium sized lumps.

8

Let it sit for about 15 minutes or more.

9

Use a small spoon to place an indent in the middle of each nest.

10

Add the Cadbury mini eggs to each nest.

11

You can eat them now but they might still be messy; I like to leave them out for 15 to 20 minutes or more to let them harden.
