Using 2 cups of all-purpose white flour, and 1/2 cup of butter or margarine, pinch together until crumbly.

Warm 1 cup of molasses in the microwave for 30-40 seconds.

Add 1 teaspoon of baking soda to the warm molasses and whisk until it foams.

Pour the foamed molasses into the flour and butter mixture and mix together.

Add in 1/2 cup of raisins if desired, or other optional ingredients like nuts or currants.

Grease a pudding tin with butter or oil to help the duff slide out easily.

Scoop the batter into the greased pudding tin.

Fill a pot with water, about a quarter full, and insert a grate to keep the pudding tin elevated.

Place the pudding tin on the grate and cover the pot.
