Start with a box of vanilla cake mix.

Layer the bottom of a trifle dish with about a third to half of the vanilla cake.

Bake the cake until slightly overbaked for firmness.

Prepare homemade whipped cream using 1 quart of heavy whipping cream, a little powdered sugar, and vanilla extract in a KitchenAid mixer.

Layer the whipped cream generously on top of the cake layer.

Prepare a layer of sauce, using homemade hot fudge made from butter, sugar, cocoa, and milk.

Layer the hot fudge sauce over the whipped cream.

Add a layer of fresh strawberries on top of the hot fudge.

Repeat the layering process with another layer of cake, whipped cream, hot fudge, and strawberries.

Optionally, let the cake sit in the fridge overnight to allow flavors to meld.
