Traditionally, these dumplings are a comfort food, embodying the warmth of Jamaican hospitality. Today, they are embraced in various forms across the Caribbean, showcasing the versatility of cornmeal in different culinary traditions.

Whole wheat flour adds fiber while being cost-effective.
Combine cornmeal, all-purpose flour, baking powder, sugar, and cinnamon in a bowl.
Add lukewarm water gradually to the dry ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
Knead the dough for 2 minutes, dusting with flour to make kneading easier.
Let the dough rest until the water comes to a boil.
Bring a pot of water to a boil and add about 1 tablespoon of salt.
Pinch off pieces of dough, shape them into dumplings, and drop them into the boiling water.
Cook the dumplings until they float, about 10 to 15 minutes depending on size.
Remove the dumplings with a slotted spoon and drain excess water.
