Put butter into the milk and microwave to warm it up.
Add flour, sugar, and a pinch of salt to a mixing bowl, keeping salt away from yeast.
Add vanilla sugar and dry yeast on top of the flour mixture.
Let the yeast react for a minute before mixing in the remaining milk and butter.
Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until it is less sticky, adding more flour if necessary.
Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for about 40 minutes until doubled in size.
Divide the dough into 8 portions and shape into balls.
Flatten each ball and fill with plum spread, sealing the edges.
For cooking, sprinkle sugar in a pot, add a mix of cream and milk, and bring to a boil.
Add dumplings seam side down and cover, reducing heat to simmer for 20-25 minutes.
Prepare vanilla sauce and mix confectioner sugar with poppy seeds for topping.
Serve dumplings with vanilla sauce and optional butter on top.
