Flan de Huevo, a beloved dessert in Spain and Latin America, has roots that trace back to Roman times when custards were first made. This creamy caramel flan symbolizes celebration and family gatherings, often served at birthdays and holidays. Today, variations abound worldwide, with each culture adding its unique twist, making it a universally adored treat.

Ingredients

  • eggs
  • milk
  • sugar
  • vanilla extract
  • water
  • salt
  • caramel sauce
  • cornstarch

Instructions

  1. 1Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. 2In a saucepan, combine sugar and water over medium heat.
  3. 3Stir until the sugar dissolves and turns a golden amber color, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. 4Quickly pour the caramel into a round baking dish, tilting to coat the bottom evenly.
  5. 5In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined.
  6. 6Pour the egg mixture over the caramel in the baking dish.
  7. 7Place the baking dish in a larger baking pan and fill the outer pan with hot water to create a water bath.
  8. 8Bake for about 50-60 minutes, or until the flan is set and a knife inserted comes out clean.
  9. 9Remove from the oven and let it cool to room temperature before refrigerating for at least 4 hours.
  10. 10To serve, run a knife around the edges of the flan and invert onto a serving plate, allowing the caramel to drizzle over the top.
