Date Bread

Cultural Context

Date bread has roots in American baking traditions, often enjoyed as a sweet treat or dessert. It showcases the natural sweetness of dates, which were popularized in the U.S. during the 19th century. This bread is often served during holidays or family gatherings, and its rich, moist texture makes it a favorite for brunch or afternoon tea. Today, variations abound, with some recipes incorporating spices or additional fruits, making it a versatile option for any occasion.

1

In a food processor, add the soaked dates along with its water and mix until smooth paste.

2

In a mixer, add all the ingredients except milk and the date paste.

3

Mix well and then add the date paste mixture to the flour mixture.

4

Mix well then add the milk and mix until a dough is formed.

5

The dough should be just a tiny bit sticky.

6

Oil your hands and form the dough into a nice ball shape.

7

Also oil a bowl and place the ball in a bowl to let it rest.

8

Once puffed up, divide the ball into about 20 to 22 small balls.

9

Let the balls rise.

10

Once risen, flour the surface and roll the balls out to somewhat thick discs.

11

Take a baking sheet and place parchment paper on the baking sheet.

12

Now place the discs on the baking sheet, giving them space in between to rise when baking.

13

Bake them at 350 degrees for about 25 minutes or until golden in color.
