bourbon

🥗Healthier: apple cider

💰Cheaper: white vinegar

Apple cider provides a similar tangy flavor with less alcohol.

honey

🥗Healthier: agave nectar

💰Cheaper: sugar syrup

Agave nectar is lower in calories, while sugar syrup is more economical.

1

Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C).

2

Unwrap the bone-in spiral ham and discard the glaze packet that comes with it.

3

Place the ham in a roasting pan, meat side down and fat side up.

4

In a pot, combine about 1 cup of light brown sugar, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, allspice, ground cloves, black pepper, honey, a splash of apple cider vinegar, Dijon mustard, and about 0.5 to 1 cup of bourbon.

5

Whisk the mixture and heat it over medium heat until it comes to a low boil, then reduce to low and let it simmer for 10 to 15 minutes.

6

Use half of the glaze to baste the ham, making sure to get it into the crevices.

7

Cut up an orange and lay the pieces around the bottom of the roasting pan, and add a couple sprigs of rosemary.

8

Loosely cover the ham with foil and bake in the oven for 2 to 2.5 hours, basting every 30 minutes with the remaining glaze.

9

After the first hour, remove the foil and baste the ham again, ensuring to get the glaze into the crevices.

10

Continue to bake for another 30 minutes, then check the internal temperature with a meat thermometer; it should reach about 140°F (60°C).

11

For the last 15 to 20 minutes, add the remaining glaze and return the ham to the oven uncovered to caramelize.
