Take puff pastry out of the freezer and let it thaw a bit for easier rolling.
Mix softened butter, light brown sugar, a bit of cinnamon, a sprinkle of salt, and vanilla extract in a bowl.
Stir in chopped nuts (pecans) into the mixture.
Roll out the puff pastry to about 1/4 inch thick.
Cut the rolled pastry into two pieces along the line.
Fill the pastry with the nut and buttery mixture.
Make an egg wash to seal the edges of the puff pastry.
Roll one part of the pastry over the filling and keep rolling, pressing down to seal it.
Pinch the edges to crimp and form a circle with the pastry.
Place the cringle seam side down and match the edges to form an 'O'.
Use the egg wash to seal the edges together.
Bake in the oven at 350°F for about 30 minutes.
Check for doneness when the kitchen smells like toffee, browning sugar, and nuts.
Let the cringle rest for about 15 minutes after taking it out of the oven.
Make icing by mixing confectioner sugar with a little milk or cream, vanilla, and a pinch of salt, then drizzle it on top.
