Sift 3.5 cups of all-purpose flour into a bowl.
Add 1/4 cup of sugar, 2 teaspoons of baking powder, and 1 teaspoon of salt to the flour and sift together.
Cut 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter into small cubes and let it sit at room temperature.
Combine the sifted dry ingredients with the softened butter.
Add 1 cup of water gradually, mixing until a dough forms, and adjust with more water if necessary.
Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until elastic.
Let the dough rest for about 30 minutes.
Divide the dough into small pieces and shape them into discs.
Use a fork to jab each disc several times.
Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or a cast iron skillet until hot, about 1 inch deep.
Carefully lower the discs into the hot oil and fry until golden brown.
